Polar Bear Club - Clash Battle Guilt Pride
Clash Battle Guilt Pride is all of the good that fans have come to expect from Rochester's Polar Bear Club. Melodic yet roughed up, earnest but tough, they stack the emotion high without sacrificing any of the crashing drums and dynamic guitars.
The lines of their punk rock come sharper and more tightly executed this time around, though, even as producer Brian McTernan helps to inject more rock power and shine. Polar Bear Club never get lost within the extra sheen, however, since their ever-present hardcore backbone continues to keep things grounded and sincere.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Mojo
Tom Petty! Excellent as usual.
I don't think the first track should lead the album, I think a different song would have been a better choice, but the rest of the cd is incredible. So give it a listen and I think you will be very pleased. Running Man's Bible, The Trip To Pirate's Cove, and No Reason To Cry stand out to me as the cream of the crop of the album, but all of the songs will leave you fullfilled.
So go buy it!

Danger Mouse And Sparklehorse - Dark Night Of The Soul
The controversy nearly obscured the resounding triumph of the album itself; written and produced by Burton and Linkous, it's a breathtaking set of atmospheric ballads (plus a few rockers) that explore cosmic concerns, from the self-destructive trap of revenge to the possibility of spiritual renewal.
"Dark Night of the Soul" is finally being released, and recognized as the great album that it is.

Patti Smith - Banga
Patti Smith, who a few decades ago revolutionized punk rock is back with her eleventh in career, similar in style to the previous releases album entitled "Banga".
This CD inspired by the topics as among others: death, love, nature and history is the result of observation and dreams - as the she admitted.
Undoubtedly a big plus is diversion of motifs presented in works, evident for ex. by "Amerigo" - which is a combination of instrumental music and sung poetry inserts - thanks to whom though the initial impression of "normal" dimension - at a later stage songs shows us their true, valuable face.

Japandroids - Celebration Rock
The second album of the Canadian group undoubtedly has a rather unique atmosphere depicted in songs such as even the initial "The Nights of Wine and Roses", or "Evil's Sway."
The compositions are the resultant of punk vocals and a bit "dirty" garage rock playing in the noise climate. Although songs are very expressive, which are interlaced with the guitar accents or a post rock motifs ("For The Love Of Ivy") - but the album finally leaves a rather chaotic - and in spite of all the mainstream impression.

STEVE HARRIS - British Lion
EMI Music are proud to announce the release of Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris’ debut solo/side project album. Entitled ‘British Lion’ and comprising ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on for the past few years between Iron Maiden tours and releases, it is an album that will surprise and delight music fans the world over.
With a decidedly heavy rock-vibe this roaring debut paints with a full palette of sounds; brooding, melancholic, righteously indignant and exuberantly heavy. With Kevin Shirley at the mixing helm – whose credits include Iron Maiden as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey and Rush among many others – this is an album to sink your teeth into.

Dire Straits - Tunnel Of Love (Alchemy Live 1983)
As Mark Knopfler puts it:
“Song about being young, song about being in a band, song about being in love. There was a place in Newcastle, called 'Spanish City', I used to go ther when I was young, place to hear rock'&'roll aloud, and to hear The Animals... too”

Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse
Powerful album, the extreme garage rock possible. The guitars are amazing: they're the base of the songs. Great distortions. The last song is mind blowing. One of the best of the year!

TOMMY LEE Asked for Photo While Holding His Mother’s Ashes
Tommy Lee recently drew some negative attention when he wrote a Facebook post (which I’d re-post here but it’s fucking long) asking fans to stop asking for pics everytime he’s outside. As it turns out, Lee had a damn good reason to be pissed off with the fans constantly hounding for pics – one fan asked for a photo while he was carrying the ashes of his mother who recently passed.
Joe Lynch of Fuse.TV spoke with Lee and discussed why he’d gotten so pissed off.
“Lee started off the story with a warning, asking me, “Are you ready for this? This is going to f**king freak you out.” Then he dove in: “My mother passed away recently,” Lee explains. “I was picking up her ashes to take them home with me to do a service for my mother. And so I’m at the mortuary, I’ve got my mom’s ashes in my right hand, and my girlfriend, I’m holding her hand with my left hand, and we’re walking out. And the f**king lady, the receptionist, goes, ‘Oh my god, can I take a picture with you?’ And I looked and her and went [takes a deep breath], ‘I’m sorry, but I’d rather not.’”
And if that wasn’t classless enough, the receptionist went further.
“Then she was like, ‘Are you sure?’ And I couldn’t even believe it—she asked me if I was sure. I’m f**king standing there with my mom’s ashes and it’s not the f**king happiest day on the planet for me. I couldn’t believe it. I go, ‘Okay, that’s officially the most f**ked up thing that has ever happened to me.’ I called the manager and said, ‘You’re not going to believe what just happened. I don’t expect you to fire her or anything like that, but that was the most disrespectful bullsh*t I’ve ever experienced in my life.’
“I sat in the car, and I’m shaking, and my girlfriend goes, ‘I’m so sorry honey,’ and I was speechless. I didn’t even know what to say. I couldn’t believe a human being just did that.”
So clearly the moral of the story is, “Don’t be absolutely selfish and insane by pushing grieving people for photographs.” But the sub-moral of the story is, “When stars complain about being hassled by fans too much, know that they probably have a few reasons to be wary.”

Deathwish – Dreams of Fortune
There is nothing better in the blogging Universe then finding new music and getting to gush about it to your many readers; oh wait! There is something better, when that new band follows up that first album with something that blows you away. At that point you realize you are on the ground floor of something very special.
Last year we reviewed Deathwish and made some pretty bold statements about their abilities and future. Of course when you say those things you don’t really know how things will turn out. With Deathwish, Sam, Chad, Andre, Frankie, and the metal god A.J. moved to the next level with the album were looking at today: Dreams of Fortune.
This EP backs up everything I said in the first review, but takes the aggression to a whole new level. The entire track list features the brutal guitar attack and a voice that sounds like a bi-polar opera singer. (only in death metal is that a good thing)
The band has talked in length about working on their live show and I have to say it has matured them in the studio as well. You can hear on tracks like “Children of the Pit” and “Fall of Eden” the necessary elements to make them come across to a live audience. That’s not an easy feat for the most experienced of bands.
If I had to bring “Dreams of Fortune” to one key point that makes it so good it has to be the song writing. The key to everything Deathwish represents is their ability to write a hook that is compelling and build substance around it to keep the listener on their feet guessing where the next growl or scream is coming from.
Death metal can be repetitive and let’s face the fact that casual fans can’t often tell bands apart. Deathwish seems to realize this and rely on the old ways of metal to build their song, but then they differentiate with a sound that is certainly unique to them. In our prior review I talked of the band using the roots of metal as a starting point; they continue to do with on the new EP, but they have found a sound that is all their own and something people will know when they enter the venue.
Deathwish literally has all the tools to take over the metal world. For people not to be clamoring to hear their stuff is a crime against the most basic of metal covenants. If this band catches their break and has the money to push forward I really don’t think those sitting at the top of the metal pyramid are safe.

MASACHIST – Reveal Initial Details On Forthcoming Album; New Track Posted
Polish Death Metal squad MASACHIST have just completed work on their second full-length, Scorned. The anticipated follow-up to the band’s 2009-released Death March Fury was recorded in mid-2011 at Monroe Sound Studio, with final production touches taken care by guitarist Aro. Featuring nine brutal and intricate songs, Scorned will be released worldwide by Selfmadegod Records on September 3rd, 2012.
MASACHIST‘s leader Thrufel comments on the album: “I’m really glad that after a long silence I can finally give you some details regarding our much-anticipated new album. Scorned is 40 minutes of your agony, another relentless death march. You could say that the new album is a natural evolution of our style. This time the songs are much more demanding than those heard on our previous one, while still retaining their primal brutality. Yes, we are still playing 100% Death Metal Kurwa MaƦ!”
The album’s cover art and album details for Scorned will be revealed in the weeks ahead. For now, hear the opening track, the punishing “The Process of Elimination,” RIGHT HERE. MASACHIST was formed in 2005 by Thrufel (ex-Azarath, ex-Yattering) and Daray (Dimmu Borgir, ex-Vader, Vesania), and later on joined by Heinrich (Vesania, ex-Decapitated, ex-UnSun), Aro (Shadows Land, Torquemada) and Pig (Anal Stench, ex-Decapitated). The band recorded its debut full-length Death March Fury which has since received excellent feedback both from Metal press and the fans around the globe.
